As we arrived to Grace Lutheran Church in Annandale, Virginia on Saturday, July 22nd, the sky grew dark and gusts of wind began to stir the air. But the bride was calm and glowing and the groom was busy wrapping up all the last minute details. The bridesmaids were bubbly with excitement and the mother of the bride helped with all the last touches of securing the gown and shoes. As preparations came to a close, the matron of honor said a prayer and then the bride opened a card that contained words from her groom that brought tears to her eyes and a smile to her face. She gracefully walked down the aisle, with her father leading the way. The officiant told the groom that though his bride looked beautiful today, her beauty will only grow deeper as they share their lives together each day through the coming years. They exchanged vows and rings and became husband and wife!
Just after arriving to the reception venue at the lovely, historical Hendry House, the downpour began. Guests stayed dry under a tent, serenaded by musician Mark Clay. The rain temporarily lightened as guests began to dish up plates of steaming barbecue, fried chicken and macaroni & cheese. A Japanese gazebo was the perfect backdrop for portraits of the bride and groom, offering shelter from rain drops. After that, it was a full-on party, with the bride and groom’s first dance, the father-daughter dance and then Kaylee’s fellow alumnae offered a traditional song and dance from their college days. Kaylee even demonstrated her own singing talent with a beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. It was a day full of laughter, happy tears and warm hugs. Congratulations Kaylee and Julius!
